Closings and Openings and News snippets
During the season there were a number of closures, many of these re-opened after renovation or complete re-building.
•      Magnet Bar…..Appears to be closed for good.
•      Opposite the Nafsika hotel Bev & Ray have opened a Diving School/Shop
•      Mistral…..Closed and re-opened under new management. Reports are that George ex Thomas Bay has done a good job and food is excellent but at present you need to wait. George is well aware of this and is rectifying the problem. Last time I went it was much better.
•      Tsaros Pool…..Thanassi’s house was knocked down and his new one built in it’s place. It is not fully complete, but very near so. The top floor is built needs some completion.
•      Margarita’s Supermarket was demolished and a new Supermarket re-built. Also next door on the sea side are two new shops, nearest to the supermarket is a clothes/tourist shop and then Mel’s which caters for nails and massages.
•      Pele and Maria’s have been rebuilt and enlarged on the same sight.
•      Next door to Pele/Maria is a new accessories shop (mainly hats) and Jeweller called Tereza’s. It is owned by the brother of Captain Nikos.
•      At the head of the “T” junction are three new shops. Noula has opened a new tourist agency.  One is vacant and the other a Leather and Accessory Shop owned by the wife of Niko (motor bike renting).
•      The two Brothers is now under new Management and called “Yiannis”. Yiannis is one of the few people originally from Ayios Stefanos. The food is good, price reasonably cheap and it is a pleasure to see him moving ahead.
•      Phoenix has closed and I have been told by the absent owner who has returned to Ayios Stefanos that it will re-open next year.
•      Captain Nikos has bought the building next to his bar and it will be available for accommodation
•      Velandis of Ayios Stefanos Car Hire & Explore has purchased a number of new cars and his fleet now comprises of about 37. Bookings can now be made on-line at   Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!

•      On the opposite side of the road and a little further down from the Town Pizza is a Miele Laundry and the Three W’s Internet Café.
•      Nancy Kalouli has started up her own Corfu Escape ( Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
and info@corfuescape.com) selling air tickets from Manchester & Gatwick to Corfu or return. I booked recently and the tickets were very reasonable and efficient. Her UK office is in Borehamwood. Tel (++44) 208 207 7356. If you are contemplating a visit to Corfu in 2007 it is well worth getting a quote from Nancy before booking. This year all her flights were mid-day and food on-board was included in the price.
•      The rumour is that Ag. Stefanos will have A.D.S.L. in a few months. If this happens it gives us the opportunity to establish a web cam and wireless network coverage so those bringing laptops can access the web.

The English residents
•      There have been a number of new permanent arrivals in Ayios Stefanos, some building houses, others completing them and yet others pondering their next step. A few have set-up holiday homes and are non-resident. The winter sees quite a community.
